Rocinha Surfe Escola is not a surf school like many others. It was founded by José Ricardo Ramos, in 1994. Ramos was a balloonist. He worked for the drug dealers. However, one day, Ricardo decided to change his life and turned his head to surfing. Twenty-nine years later, he still doesn't have a place he calls home, but he shares his knowledge with the favela kids from Rio de Janeiro.

Jarryd Wingfield, one of the most talented bodyboarders in the United Kingdom, has taken his own life. He was battling depression.
