Jeff Spicoli: Sean Penn should have been a pro surfer

Sean Penn is the ultimate surfer dude. Can you imagine? Well, in fact, it happened back in 1982, when Penn played "Spicoli," the classic dumb wave rider in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High."

The film was adapted from a book written by Cameron Crowe. It describes his experience in a Californian high school and also features a young Nicolas Cage.

Sean Penn plays the role of Spicoli, a crazy surfer with a brain infected by stereotyped catchphrases of the surfing world.

Jeff Spicoli, a marijuana-carefree student, destroys the car of a local Ridgemont football player star and avoids getting into trouble by faking the accident in very creative ways.

In the end, he even saves Brooke Shields from drowning.

"Things look kind of rough out there today, Jeff," says the news reporter.

"Well, I'll tell you, Stu, I did battle some humongous waves! But you know, just like I told the guy on ABC, 'danger is my business!'" replies Spicoli.

The journalist insists. "Let me ask you a question. When you get out there, do you ever fear for your life?"

"Well, Stu, I'll tell you, surfing's not a sport. It's a way of life, you know, a hobby. It's a way of looking at that wave and saying, 'Hey bud, let's party!'" says the dumb surfer dude.

"So, what's next for Jeff Spicoli?".

"Headed over to the Australian and then the Hawaiian Internationals. Then me and Mick are gonna wing on over to London and jam with the Stones," Spicoli concludes the interview.
