Raph Derome claimed the 2016 Malibu Sparks Pro, at Sparks Marina, in Nevada.
The wakeboarder from Coteau-Du-Lac, Quebec, took the third event of the Wakeboard World Series (WBWS), and he was the only athlete to stand up on both passes of the final.
"It's an amazing feeling to walk away with the win here at the 2016 Malibu Sparks Pro. This is such an awesome event that was put on the entire weekend, and I am fortunate to have the epic wake of the M235, which helped me uncork some huge tricks and grab the Men's Pro win," explained Derome.
Raph's heelside backside 720 impressed the judges and, as a reward, he got a score of 95.33 points. Mike Dowdy missed the highest podium position by only 2.34 points. Tony Iaconni finished third.
In the women's division, Nicola Butler ignited the wakeboarding fans with a solid display of tricks and won the event with 90.00 points. Tarah Mikacich and Amber Wing rounded out the podium.
"The competition was stiff with all of the girls riding so strong, but I was able to keep focused on myself and stay consistent through both of my passes for my first win of the season," added Butler.
Parker Payne and Ashley Kidd (Surf), as well as Aaron Witherell and Jodi Grassman (Skim) also won the trophies in their categories. The next stop on the WBWS is the Nautique WWA Wakeboard US National Championships.
