Nic Rapa and Nicola Butler have taken out the Malibu Factory Smoky Mountain Pro 2017, in Louden, Tennessee.
The fourth stop of the WWA Wakeboard World Series (WBWS) and first stop of the Malibu Evolution Pro Series got underway on the Tennessee River, surrounded by hundreds of enthusiastic fans.
In the Pro Women's competition, the WBWS leader Giorgia Gregorio suffered an injury and had to watch her direct opponents ride for podium places.
Meagan Ethell finished third with a heel side 540 and a melon off axis 360, while Larisa Morales opted for a toe side 540 and a few grabs and secured second. Nicola Butler was able to stomp two stand up passes that included a super clean roll to blind and won the event.
"The wake was absolutely huge out there. Honestly, in the first few rounds it was a bit of a struggle to get used to, but in the finals, it was go time, and it was pretty fun," said Butler.
Nic Rapa was able to beat two monsters of the sport - Raph Derome and Noah Flegel - by scoring two stand up passes highlighted by two double flips and a mute mobe 540.
"I knew I had to go out there and literally give it all I got. I had the cleanest and best contest run that I've ever had, so it paid off, and I couldn't be more stoked," concluded Rapa, who now leads the overall ranking.
