Slalom windsurfing: popular as ever

US Windsurfing has announced that Slalom will be part of the US National Racing Tour (NRT) 2014.

The US National Racing Tour (NRT) is an exciting year-long race for points. Racers are automatically entered when they participate in some of the most prestigious events in the country, and accrue points based on their results at each of those events.

The points system rewards top finishes, but also participation, as no one who makes the effort to attend an event leaves without points.

The competition has been featuring Formula, Open and Kona, and now the NRT is also adding four Slalom events to the tour. The inaugural series will travel to Worthington (June 10th-15th), Hood River (July 19th-20th), Kahului (August 9th), Miami (November 8th-9th).

"The Midwest Speed Quest in Worthington has demonstrated that this venue can produce board speeds over 40 mph, so prepare for some thrilling competition", says Arden Anderson, Great Lakes Regional Director for US Windsurfing.

The 2014 US Slalom Windsurfing Series Schedule:

US Windsurfing Nationals (June 10th-15th, Worthington, MN)
Gorge Cup (July 19th-20th, Hood River, OR)
Hawaii State Championships (August 9th, Kahului, HI)
Miami Slalom Open (November 8th-9th, Miami, FL)

In 2005, Pepsi defied the surfing community by releasing a commercial in which famous soccer stars break the surfers-only beach rule implemented by a group of local wave riders.
