Ben Proffitt has been considered the "Windsurfer of the Year" 2014 by the United Kingdom Windsurfing Association.

The voting was very close but, in the end, the experienced wave sailor from Shrewsbury came out on top. Ben joins the list which includes Nick Dempsey, Bryony Shaw, Zara Davis and Izzy Hamilton.

"Awesome news. Thanks! To be honest, if I'd lost to Emma Wilson I really wouldn't have been upset, as she had a great achievement this year winning the worlds! But I'm super happy to win," expressed Proffitt.

"For me, I won the biggest thing I could have won this year and something I'd dreamed of as a kid growing up. Fingers crossed for a bigger and better 2015."

Proffitt is one of the best known British wave sailors. He has been a top performer in the waves in 2014; he secured a fifth place in the PWA Wave Indoor event, won the Slalom comp, finished the PWA World Tour in the top 15, and second in the BWA.
