The Dunkerbeck Speed Challenge has joined forces with Le Défi. There will be a virtual GPS speed sailing event that will compare with the Défi Wind marks and records.

The idea to merge the competitions came when Philippe Bru, the organizer of Le Défi, was racing in Bjorn's speed contest. After a few brainstorming sessions, the watersport enthusiasts decided to combine their assets.

"In both disciplines, Speed and Long Distance, the winner is the fastest windsurfer, so why not combine the two during the Le Défi? We will also organize the first-ever worldwide GPS challenge on the same day," reveal Dunkerbeck and Bru.

The GPS challenge will give windsurfers the chance to virtually compete with the 1200 sailors who are racing in Défi Wind. So if you can't be at the event, the Gran Canaria Le Défi Dunkerbeck Speed Challenge will feature two separate rankings: one for official participants, and a virtual one for those racing at their home spots.

The Dunkerbeck Speed Challenge 2015 will take place in Gran Canaria on May 16th, depending on the weather conditions, but it will be confirmed a week before.
