Professional windsurfer Max Matissek has developed "True Wind," a project series that combines windsurfing and visual arts.

The idea is great. Matissek selects unique spots to windsurf in, rides them, captures the whole set and then gets the photographs on canvas for a final painting. The result is quite appealing.

"I always imagined to windsurf in places where it actually was impossible to because of simple physics and other stuff. In surroundings where nobody would expect a windsurfer to fly through," Matissek tells the PWA World Tour.

"In 'True Wind' I try to make these pictures I dreamed of a reality. The idea itself was already for many years in my mind, but I had to wait for the right moment. Now finally the time has come, and I could make the first project which I am really happy about."

The Austrian windsurfer-artist shot his first frame in a large underground rainwater reservoir located in Simmering, Vienna. He built a small ramp and hit it hard with all he got.

"You can feel the landings a bit in your knees, but that's it actually. One time I crashed into one of the pillars and into a wall of the building, but without the ramp. That was really scary," revealed Max Matissek.

"So far it wasn't physically possible to get street style into windsurfing, like in snowboarding and skateboarding. But with my winch and the kicker I can incorporate these aspects and produce creative images that until now weren't possible."
