Nick Dempsey: gold at home | Photo: onEdition

Nick Dempsey and Flavia Tartaglini tasted gold at the ISAF Sailing World Cup Weymouth and Portland, in England.

On the final day of competition, the RS:X windsurfers fought for medals in the decisive race. Dempsey crossed the finish line in third, but he rarely finished out of the top two throughout the week.

"For me the event has really gone to plan. It's been six or seven weeks since the last World Cup in Hyeres, and I didn't do so well there, so I wanted to get out on the water and perform again," said Nick Dempsey.

Tom Squires finished ninth and celebrated the silver medal. In the battle for bronze, Cho Wonwoo managed to get the job done with a bullet, leaving Mattia Camboni on the same points as the Korean.

In the Women's division, leader Isobel Hamilton sailed the wrong course and handed the gold medal to Flavia Tartaglini. Bryony Shaw took silver, and Tuuli Petaja secured bronze.

"We were all really close so it was all about the Medal Race. It was really exciting. The four people who could win were all together around the first mark, so it was a straight race between the four of us," concluded Tartaglini.
