They've done it again. Antoine Albeau and Sarah-Quita Offringa have conquered the 2015 PWA Slalom World Tour title, in New Caledonia.
The world's fastest windsurfers put an exclamation mark on the last day of competition of the season, with winds blowing between 20-25 knots, and in front of hundreds of spectators watching the show from the beach.
Antoine Albeau is amazing. The French sailor celebrated his fourth consecutive world title and the 23rd trophy of his career. Pierre Mortefon, who ended up winning the Airwaves Noumea Dream Cup, finished with same points as Albeau (10,269 points), but Albeau took the title on countback having beaten Mortefon more times this season.
"It feels super good, it was a bit difficult with the points because I wasn't really sure of the scenarios, but now it feels great to win one more world title," explained Antoine Albeau.
"What a 2015 end! Windy conditions, the best event of the year for me with a victory after nine race! I finished first ex-aequo. I touched my dream with my fingertips, and that's super motivating to work harder and harder to achieve my goal! I'm the 2015 vice-world champion, and I'm really happy to go back home with such a title," added Mortefon.
Meanwhile, on the women's side, Delphine Cousin managed to steal the show with a well-deserved win in New Caledonia. Sarah-Quita confirmed her world title and finished runner-up in the event.
"Finally! Something I wanted badly since I finished my studies. Coming to New Caledonia I already had two event wins in the pocket, so the title was within my grasp. But I still was really nervous for this event. Because... what if it all goes wrong?" revealed Offringa.
"That crash I had last year, bothered me for six months after. And I've replayed it over and over again in my mind since. Dude, then the green flag goes up, and you have no choice but to sheet in and hold on if you want to keep up. In the end, it turned out to be some of the best racing in a long time!"
