Tom Squires and Olga Maslivets have claimed the gold medals at the 2016 Trofeo Princesa Sofia, held in Palma, Spain.

All eyes are now on the Rio 2016, as many European sailors run out of opportunities to qualify for the Summer Olympics. In the last day of regattas, there were tears of joy and despair.

For British RS:X athlete Tom Squires, who was recovering from a long flight back from Brazil, it was a challenging week, and his first ever win in the Old Continent.

"Gold medallist sounds very good - I'm really happy! I'd not imagined I would be in this position. I've come straight from Rio and had just a day at home, so I was more tired than anything, but I guess that just allowed me to think about the important things," said Squires.

"I think it's the first time I've ever won anything since Youth since I was on a longboard on Rutland reservoir! I'm pretty happy. It's been a windy week; I've been loving the wind as it hasn't been windy at our events since this time last year. It's been great."

With four solid race victories, Olga Maslivets collected a gold medal for the Russian flag. Flavia Tartaglini and Lilian de Geus completed the podium.

Whether you think of a kite as a wing or a sail, you want it to be lightweight, resistant, waterproof, but also stiff and flexible at the same time, so that they could respond to all flight requests.
