Victor Fernandez claims his second PWA Wave World Tour title

07 November 2016 | Windsurfing

Victor Fernandez claimed the second PWA Wave World Tour title of his career.

The Spanish windsurfer won the first two events of the season in Pozo Izquierdo and Tenerife, finished fourth in Sylt, and a good result in Maui awarded him another world title, six years after the first.

The 2016 NoveNove Maui Aloha Classic was greeted by winds of 30-35 knots, and mast to double mast high waves. On the fourth day - one of the greatest competitive wave sailing days ever - Alex Mussolini knew what he had to do to aim for the world title.

However, his mission was cut short, following an impressive performance by Ricardo Campello and Ross Williams in Heat 41. Mussolini finished third, with just 0.26 points less than the British sailor.

Victor Fernandez concluded his Hawaiian run in Heat 39, but it was enough to raise the PWA Wave World Tour trophy. He is your 2016 wave sailing champion.

"It's great. Being crowned here in Maui is a dream for me. The level in that last two days was incredible. There were a few up and downs for me. I hit the rocks on the big day, and I still can't believe it," said Victor Fernandez.
