Benjamin Fabres steals the show at inaugural Matanzas Wave Classic

Benjamin Fabres has taken out the inaugural Matanzas Wave Classic, held in the waves of Chile.
The penultimate event on the 2017 International Windsurfing Tour delivered logo-high wave sets on the second day of competition, allowing organizers to run the finals.
The superb conditions ignited the pro and amateur fleets. Athletes were invited to put their gear to the test in the waves of Matanzas beach, a place once visited by Sir Francis Drake.
The local sailors clearly showed they had their lesson learned, and advanced through the early round by displaying their arsenal of turns, airs, and impeccable wave selection - Alex Vargas, Andres Tobar, Felipe Wedeles, and Benjamin Fabres should be praised for their wave sailing performances.
In fact, the first ever IWT contest held in Matanzas end up having a Chilean champion. Fabres stormed the final with the highest wave score of the entire competition, leaving Morgan Noireaux, Vargas and Wedeles in the remaining podium places.
The IWT fleet will now travel to Hawaii for the ultimate showdown - the Maui Aloha Classic - from October 29 to November 12.
