With Tokyo 2020, the sport of windsurfing will celebrate its 36th Olympic anniversary.

World Sailing has already confirmed the participation of sailboarding in the Summer Olympics. It will be the tenth time windsurfing takes part in the most prestigious international sports event on the planet.

Tokyo 2020 will also be the most gender-balanced Olympics of its centennial history with a 50/50 ratio participation of male and female athletes.

Take a quick look at everything you need to know about the involvement of windsurfing in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, in Japan. Here's what we know as of January 2018:

1. The quota for sailing in Tokyo 2020 was reduced from 380 to 350;

2. The windsurfing class chosen for the Japanese Summer Olympics is the RS:X Class;

3. All Olympic windsurfing athletes will compete in an open series and double-point medal race format;

4. Whenever wind condition permit, all RS:X windsurfers will race in with a reaching start and finish;

5. RS:X will be the longest represented class in windsurfing with four Olympic inclusions, overcoming Mistral's three participations;

6. The Men's and Women's Olympic windsurfing competitions will take place at the Enoshima Yacht Harbor, in the Kanagawa Prefecture;

7. The Aarhus 2018 Sailing World Championships is the main qualification event for Tokyo 2020;

8. The International Olympic Committee will review all qualification systems for Tokyo 2020 in February 2018;

Tokyo 2020 will also mark the debut of surfing in the Olympic Games.
