Tim Eriksson: windsurfing in Stockholm is fun

There are not many windsurfers in Stockholm. The most popular sports in Sweden are football and ice hockey. But that could be about to change.

Comprised of 14 islands, Stockholm is the capital of Sweden and the most populous city in the Nordic countries. But, for many, it is also the undisputed capital of Scandivania.

Recently, a local windsurfer decided to hit the cold waters of Lake Mälaren's Riddarfjärden Bay. Tim Eriksson went sailing in front of the Stockholm City Hall, on a gorgeous sunny day.

"I have been thinking about windsurfing in front of the City Hall for three years, and all of a sudden it happens! I worked really well with a good rig, straight west wind, and choppy conditions," explained Eriksson.

"It could've been tricky to launch a kite, but there were no bathers even in the high season. Just watch out for the Djurgården 4 boat and the vast amount of tourists."

The short video shot by Tim Eriksson could very well be used by the official tourism bureau of Stockholm to promote the city founded in 1252.

The Swedish capital has potential to attract windsurfing, kitesurfing and stand-up paddleboarding enthusiasts and international events.
