Laura Dekker: brave sailor

The 14-year-old sailor Laura Dekker begins today her challenge to become the youngest person to sail solo around the world.

Dekker's dream will set sail from Lisbon, Portugal, in a two year adventure through the waters of the world.

"I am not really afraid", Laura told media before departing from the Den Osse docks, in Holland, to the Portuguese starting point.

Guppy is the name of Laura Dekker's yacht. The teenager said that she will miss "Spot", her dog.

Child protection authorities have tried to stop her voyage, but Dekker has successfully achieved a victory in courts and she will aim to complete this enormous challenge before turning 17, on September 20, 2012. That is the only condition for success.

SurferToday.com would like to send deep positive vibes and luck to this courageous sailor. May the winds be with you, Laura.
