Twenty two Formula windsurfers and two Kona sailors have met for the 2011 Miami Wind and Surfers Challenge, in Florida, USA.

Paulo dos Reis, world windsurfing champion, visited his North American friends and joined the races. Despite the lack of competing winds, it was possible to run two races for the Kona Class.

Also, a long distance race was held. Charlotte Samson and Doug Waldo fought a tight duel but, in the end, Samson was crowned the overall winner of the event.

The 2011 Miami Wind and Surfers Challenge was concluded with a fun party, in South Beach. There was also a promotion of the upcoming Formula World Championship, to be held in Puerto Rico, between July 4th-9th.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved surfing's qualification system for the Tokyo 2020.
