Red Bull Rocket: firing bullets in Pozo Izquierdo

The inaugural "Red Bull Rockets" will storm Pozo Izquierdo, in Gran Canaria, with hurricane winds and the best riders in the world.

The mythical spot that has made history in the world of windsurfing will bring sixteen top national and international riders to a competition in which victory will not be measured by a panel of judges.

What determines the rider who gets the biggest jump is a real time 3D trajectory and measurement system. This revolutionary concept, designed by, takes technology to a new level allowing data transmission, in real time. Each rider carries an electronic device in the arm during the competition.

Pozo Izquierdo is a landmark spot in the windsurfing scene. For 25 years, several world championship competitions have been sailed here. Heroes like Björn Dunkerbeck, Philip Köster or Victor Fernandez have already been confirmed in the "Red Bull Rockets".

Besides the biggest jump award, there will be another prize for the best trick and a third for the best wipeout, this one decided by a jury of experts. During this time of year, trade winds can reach 50 knots. The exact day of the competition will not be known until two days before.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved surfing's qualification system for the Tokyo 2020.
