Francisco Birkner: Techno 293 champ

Martin Berardo and Francisco Birkner have claimed the South American Windsurfing Championships by winning the Raceboard and Techno divisions, at San Roque Lake, in Argentina.

Club Nautico Cordoba welcomed 67 racing windsurfers from several Latin America countries for five days of intense battles in the water. Wind blew at 18 knots during competition.

The Brazilian windsurfer Martin Berardo managed to take eight bullets, out of 11 races, and was easily crowned the South America Raceboard champion. His closest rivals, both Argentinians, Julian Lopez Beck and Nahual Abram, finished on equal points.

In the Under 17 Techno category, Argentinian Francisco Saubidet Birkner dominated the competition with seven wins, out of nine races. Gustavo Manzo raced consistently well to take second overall and Maximo Nores, from the USA, fought hard to take third.

Geronimo Nores was victorious in the Under 15 Techno, Ivan Barth kept second and Steven Cramer managed to fight his way back to the third place, on the last day of racing.

Rob Bain, Layne Beachley, and Dave Macaulay have taken out the Azores Airlines World Masters Championship in the Grand Masters, Women's Masters and Men's Masters divisions held in good three-foot surf at Praia de Santa Barbara.
