Miguel Martinho: flying with the Portuguese Formula Windsurfing flag

Miguel Martinho is the new 2013 European Formula Windsurfing champion, in the Masters division, after 13 intense races at Praia da Vitória, Ilha Terceira, Azores.

The 2013 Azores European Formula Windsurfing Festival crowned champions in Junior, Youth, Masters and Grandmasters categories. In the last day of competition, all sailors enjoyed unstable South winds to finish the deal.

"Everything went well. I'm happy because there were top athletes competing here, like the French and the Italian. I think it was fair a championship. In the last days I felt the pressure and it was a pity that we only had done two races today, but Mother Nature did not allow us", said Miguel Martinho.

The new European Formula Windsurfing champion has opened a new chapter for Portugal, as the country never had a tradition in this windsurfing class. Now, Martinho plans to bring the World trophy to Portuguese soil, in the upcoming Croatia Worlds.

Valentin Brault secured the Senior title, while Marco Begalli took the Grand Master glory.

Rob Bain, Layne Beachley, and Dave Macaulay have taken out the Azores Airlines World Masters Championship in the Grand Masters, Women's Masters and Men's Masters divisions held in good three-foot surf at Praia de Santa Barbara.
