Défi Wind 2013: up to 805 windsurfers racing for victory

Patrice Belbeoch has stormed the 13th edition of the Défi Wind, in Gruissan, France.

The famous Tramontane wind blessed 805 sailors in the world's largest windsurfing marathon. In the fifth and final race, Belbeoch sealed the deal and finished ahead of Andrea Cucchi and Sébastien Bonhomme Allaire.

The 2013 Défi Wind saw riders traveling from 31 countries, including Japan, Chile, South Africa and the USA. The event's DNA mixes pros and amateurs, without distinction.

The racing conditions were superb and numbers speak for themselves. Five races, 155 kilometers of competition, winds of 30 knots with 40-knot gusts and sail choices between 4 and 7.

The Tramontane is one of the most iconic winds in the world and it is not easy to control. Windsurfers are expected to complete the challenge, but there is no time limit to cross the finish line.
