Alex Caviglia Bluewater Classic

The Third annual Alex Caviglia Bluewater Classic is set for January 17 to 19 on Miami’s Biscayne Bay and will add the Formula Class Windsurfing North American Championship to it’s roster.

Also sailing in the event are the three Paralympic Classes (SKUD 18, 2.4 mtR, Sonars) and two classes of dinghies (Access and O’Pen BICs). This will be the 2nd O’Pen BIC “Un-regatta”, a new way of racing for youth that promotes pure FUN on the water! Registration is open from now to January 10, 2009.

“We are excited to host this classic regatta again this year,” said Harry Horgan, chief executive officer and co-founder of Shake-A-Leg Miami.

“Proceeds from the last two Caviglia Regattas, enabled us to start a windsurfing program and teach more than 200 kids how to sail. Proceeds from the 2009 Caviglia Classic will help us expand our program with adaptive equipment, such as sit down rigs, that will enable people with disabilities to enjoy windsurfing.”

The Formula Class North American Championship will bring the best windsurfers from around the world, including past Formula World Champion Micah Buzianis and many top Olympic Windsurfers and National Champions from South America and the Caribbean.

The Alex Caviglia Bluewater Classic is named in honor of Alex Caviglia, a consummate kite boarder, windsurfer, champion multi-class sailor, soccer coach, business and family man.

The Alex Caviglia Bluewater Classic offers top-level competition in a variety of open classes, a perfect venue, terrific parties, and great food. Races will run daily from the mornings through early afternoon.

Spectator boats will provide up close views of the on-the-water action. Sailors and non-sailors can meet at the evenings’ party. These gatherings will include many activities and live performances as well as videos of the day’s events.
