Blanca Alabau: teenage winner

Blanca Alabau won the final of the Volvo Ocean Race Academy RS:X windsurfing taking place at the heart of the Alicante Race Village. The fifteen-year-old from Tarifa was clearly happy.

“It was great conditions for windsurfing today – strong winds and flat water,” Blanca said. “It was so cool to compete in the middle of the Race Village right next to these amazing boats.”

Blanca was one of five future windsurfing stars racing as part of the Volvo Ocean Race Academy.

They raced and trained under the expert eye of Spanish Olympic windsurfer Ivan Pastor in preparation for the RS:X Youth World Championships in Italy.

“The Volvo Ocean Race Academy is great for children and the Race Village is an amazing place,” the 31-year-old said. “It’s great for the city and for the region.”
