RS:X Windsurfing: sails of gold

Two hundreds sailors will compete at the 2012 RS:X World Windsurfing Championships, in Cadiz, Spain, from 21st March.

In the Men's RS:X fleet, there are 19 windsurfers chasing nine national qualification places for the London 2012 Olympic Sailing competition. They come from 47 countries and five continents.

Over in the Women's RS:X fleet, there are racers from 36 countries, 16 chasing only seven remaining places. In the Women's fleet, Lee Korzits is going to have her work cut out if she wants to retain her title. Zofia Klepacka and Marina Alabau, who took the remaining podium places in Perth are back and determined to go one, or two, better.

Alessandra Sensini, Bryony Shaw and Charline Picon will also be putting the pressure over the favorite windsurfers.

Over in the Men's RS:X fleet, Dorian van Rijsselberghe has just returned from winter training in New Zealand. The world champion seemed to be able to make mistakes with impunity in Perth and bounce back without apparently feeling the pressure. Piotr Myszka could not find the answer to his dominance. Nor could Nimrod Mashich, who finished third overall.

JP Tobin, Zac Plavsic, Elliot Carney and Nick Dempsey are the other names playing the same game, with the Olympic Games in sight.
