Calema Midwinters: hats were need because of the wind

Winds peaking at 40 knots closed the 2012 Calema Midwinters races, in Merritt Island, Florida. Gabriel Browne and Rasmus Sayre have conquered the Formula Windsurfing and Techno 293 competitions.

Brazilians dominated the top of the Formula Windsurfing leaderboard with Gabriel Browne taking first place overall, although Micah Buzianis, from, managed to clinch second place in front of Paulo Dos Reis, in third, by just one point.

Apart from a win in race two, Wilhelm Schurmann in fourth had to be content to watch the battles of the top three.

Competition was also tough for the Techno 293 competitors. Rasmus Sayre, from USA, had a shaky start in race one, but took the championship win and becomes the Techno 293 U-17 North American champion 2012.

He was just one point ahead of Jonathan Rudich. Peru's Juan Fernando Bazo, winner of the penultimate race, took third overall. The first place U-15 Techno sailor was Maximo Nores, from USA, who sailed well to finish fourth overall. He is and becomes Techno 293 U-15 North American 2012 champion.

The Calema Midwinters Festival gathers World Cup pros, Olympic Class competitors, beginner sailors and all other levels in between.
