The 2016 windsurfing season has been officially opened. And Jose "Gollito" Estredo is the first star of the year to shine brightly at the Surf Worldcup Podersdorf, in Austria.

The freestylers are back in action, and the inaugural event of the PWA World Tour brought exciting clashes and tight decisions. After the first day of competition with winds hitting 40 knots, skippers fought in the double elimination with cold winds of 12-20 knots.

In the double elimination, Amado Vrieswijk won nine heats by combining kabikuchis on both tacks with powerful double culos, and forced a super final with his friend Estredo.

However, the Bonairean was visibly tired, and his 10th heat was not easy. He started suffering cramps and could not halt Jose's no-handed culos, double culos and shuvit spocks on both tacks. In the end, "Gollito" beat Vrieswijk by under three points.

"I won the double elimination against my friend Amado Vrieswijk. I feel amazing the level I showed here was amazing. It's something that makes me eager to keep giving it everything in the water and take this flag well 'lejo,'" explained the Venezuelan.

"Last year was my worst year in competition, and many thought that my level had dropped, but it's always good to experience these things because they make you stronger. Thank you God - I'm always grateful for life."

The last three days of the Surf World Cup Podersdorf 2016 were reserved for the tow-in competition. Tonky Frans landed a skopu, and took home the trophy.
