Gonzalo Costa Hoevel: black power

Gonzalo Costa Hoevel has joined the Point-7 Black Team.

The rider from Argentina is the latest addition to the dark side of windsurfing. Hoevel started sailing when he was nine-years-old. In 1997, Gonzalo won the Youth World Championships in Sopot.

"People asked me many times about the sails. A lot of people in Argentina followed the tour in the last years and in the beginning the only thing they asked me was about those new stylish black sails," says Costa Hoevel.

"I will be here in Tarifa all year training with my good friend Ben van der Steen and it seems that a lot more guys will be here too. At the moment, there are at least 15 pro slalom guys here, so it is great energy around for training."

Recently, Gonzalo lost a great friend. Alberto Menegatti was also a member of Point-7. Both windsurfers spent a long time together, travelling, sharing accommodation, testing gear and enjoying life.

"A couple years back, when he made that huge jump to the top, I was so happy for him and we've talked many times how good it would be if we were teammates. Bamby was an extremely hard worker, with huge determination and probably the sportsman with highest ambition I've ever met," underlines Gonzalo.

"I remember him daily, and I try not to get sad, so mostly I think of all the great stories we lived together. I find a lot of inspiration in the way he lived his life."
