Joao Rodrigues: cruising at 40

João Rodrigues has become the 2012 European Raceboard champion, in Murcia, Spain.

The Portuguese Olympic windsurfer is 40 years old, but is still collecting titles worldwide. João Rodrigues finished the 13 races, in light-to-moderate winds.

"I would like to thank the support given from the Madeira team. It was a privilege to be part of it and I hope this is the first of many in the future", said Rodrigues.

The sailor from the Madeira Islands finished one point ahead of Ivan Pastor. Max Wojcik, from Poland, got the bronze medal. Murashev Artem has been crowned the 2012 Raceboard Youth European champion.

The Grandmaster champion was the 47-year-old Juha Blinnikka, from Finland, and the first Veteran was 65-year-old Paco Manchon, from Spain.

João Rodrigues is also happy with the return of windsurfing to the Olympic sailing competition and believes ISAF made a mistake.

"The ISAF didn't listen to sailors and national governing bodies, and postponed the decision until the annual meeting. ISAF should've merged windsurfing and kiteboarding in the Olympic Games", says Rodrigues. uses cookies to ensure you get the best experience on our website. Learn more on our About section.
