RS:X Youth Europeans ready to go in Sicily

June 30, 2008 | Windsurfing

The first RS:X Youth European Championship will be staged in one month by the Albaria Club on the beautiful bay of Mondello in Sicily.

Albaria has a very long and distinguished record of organising windsurfing events including their annual ‘World Festival on the Beach’ which started life as the ‘World Windsurfing Festival’ 23 years ago and an Olympic Class European Championship for IMCO.

The class is keen to promote youth racing.  For evidence of this desire, you only have to look at the Baltic Cup where you will find RS:X Youth Fleets racing alsongside Techno 293 Fleets. Regional series such as this ensure that racers can get international experience as near to home as possible. It also ensures that the costs are kept down too.

The next step is to take part in the RS:X Youth European Championship which, this year, is supported by the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV). Entries have already been received from Cyprus, France, Germany, Greece, Great Britain, Hungary, Italy, Poland and the Ukraine.

To ensure that the RS:X Youth programme is driven well and that communications with Youth Fleet racers is good, the RS:X constitution provides for a Youth Fleet Representative to be a member of the Executive Committee.

Anyone wishing to become actively involved in the development of youth racing as the RS:X Youth Representative should initially contact the RS:X office.
