Windsurfing's Bay Day: hey, smile if you're a windsurfer

Windsurfing wants you for a photo shoot. The goal of Windsurfing’s Bay Day on June 12, 2010, is to have every every kiter and sailor in San Francisco join the San Francisco Boardsailing Association at the St. Francis Yacht Club for an educational safety event and barbecue — then get every rider in San Francisco and the surrounding cities out on the water for a Bay Area-wide helicopter photo shoot.

The San Francisco Boardsailing Association has partnered up with the U.S. Coast Guard to present a informational clinic on windsurfing safety — including a rescue boat tour and helicopter rescue demonstration.

Preceding the Safety Clinic is a swap meet at Crissy Field — bring the windsurfing gear that’s cluttering up your garage and let somebody else find a new windsurfing treasure.

After the swap meet and safety day demonstration, either rig up your sail at Crissy Field or head back to your home spot and get out on the water.

We’ll have the helicopter heading from spot to spot to get it all in high-resolution images for the next issue of Windsurfing. If Saturday turns out to be totally windless, we’ll have the heli on call for Sunday, too.

Windsurfing’s Bay Day Schedule:

9 a.m. Swap Meet at Crissy Field
11 a.m.-2 p.m. SFBA Safety Day and Free Lunch at St. Francis Yacht Club
3-6 p.m. WINDSURFING Heli-Shoot Everywhere
4-? P.M. Crissy Field SFBA Barbecue at Crissy Field
