"Brusco" is Nic Von Rupp's business card
It's one of the best-edited highlight reels of the 2018/2019 winter season. "Brusco" puts Nicolau Von Rupp alongside the best performers in big wave surfing.
Von Rupp was born on August 2, 1990, in Portugal. He is the son of a German father and Portuguese mother and speaks fluently five languages.
Rupp has always lived in Praia Grande, a famous beach break located in Sintra. He started surfing at the age of nine and soon after Nic was already wearing a competitive jersey.
As a teenage surfer, he collected several national titles and specialty event trophies until making his debut in the Qualifying Series (QS) stage, in 2009.
The Big Wave Surfing Dream
However, with the turn of the decade, Nic decided to change the course of his professional surfing career by shifting the focus to the big wave arena.
In 2013, the Portuguese won the Perfect Chapter and the Pawa Tube Fest. One year later, he rode the giant Irish waves, courtesy of Storm Hercules, and continued winning competitions and free surfing around the world.
Recently, he embraced a longtime passion - chasing the biggest and most dangerous waves on the planet - almost as a full-time job.
Rupp rips. Just watch how this 28-year-old charger attacks the giants of Nazaré, Mullaghmore, Jaws, and Mavericks in a single winter season.
Sooner or later, we'll see Nicolau Von Rupp having a shot at the Big Wave Tour title. Because, apparently, it really is only a matter of time.
