Is the Roxy Pro Biarritz trailer too provocative?
The video trailer of the Roxy Pro Biarritz is being attacked by surfers and women's organizations for its provocative angles and overall sexiness.
It was supposed to be just another female surfing contest, in Biarritz, France, but surfwear brand Roxy decided to do something different.
The promotional video for the Roxy Pro Biarritz 2013 shows Stephanie Gilmore getting ready for the French waves, since she wakes up until she gets ready for contest.
"Women are complex and multi-dimensional. To ignore this fact is to ignore who we truly are. Obviously, there's been much conversation around the video we recently released. We believe all athletes are naturally beautiful, in and out of the water", Roxy explains on its Facebook page.
"You certainly don't have to be sexy to be an athlete, and we also believe it's not wrong to be an athlete and to be sexy, if you choose to be".
Criticism has quickly spread over the internet. Gilmore's underpants and shower footage was accused of sexualizing female athletes. Meanwhile, a parody has emerged.
The Roxy Pro Biarritz video basically focus on the bottom and legs of the female surfer and it may be compared to a lingerie ad. Do you think it has crossed the line of good taste or does it simply focus on the athletic body of a female surfer? What's more provocative: the body surfer girls of gun advertisements?
