Toledo and Picklum win 2023 Hurley Pro Sunset Beach

February 20, 2023 | Surfing

Filipe Toledo and Molly Picklum conquered the 2023 Hurley Pro Sunset Beach in Haleiwa, Oahu, Hawaii.

The finals day got underway in clean six-to-eight-foot waves with the mid-season cut and the 2024 Olympics on the horizon.

The second stop on the Championship Tour (CT) season provided plenty of action in both men's and women's divisions.

Toledo locked in the 13th trophy of his elite career in a highly competitive matchup against a confident Griffin Colapinto.

The high-scoring battle saw a total of nine waves ridden, with the champion only being decided in the last couple of minutes.

"I worked super hard for this just training and surfing. Last year, I got what I wanted and learned a lot," expressed the 2022 world surfing champion.

"Griffin seemed a little tense having that 9.17. I don't know if he was or not. But I stayed calmed and composed and just waited for the wave, then did what I had to do."

In the women's final, Picklum took home her first CT trophy after beating Caroline Marks.

The Australian showed impressive physical condition and promised to make waves in the upcoming events.

"I'm stoked to be on the top, but it's just a jersey color for now. The endgame is Trestles," added Picklum.

"The level of women's surfing is insane. You can be on the Challenger Series one year and then win a CT event, so I'm definitely proud of myself."
