Mitch Rawlins: tasting beerctory

Mitch Rawlins and Lilly Pollard are the 2012 Rebel Sport Pro Tour champions, after the decisive RAW National Bodyboarding titles came to a close, at Surf Beach.

The intense and tense week of waves attracted 300 bodyboarders to the Australian region of Kiama. The quality of the surf was impressive and the new champions were ecstatic with the victories.

"I consider winning the Australian Tour second to the world titles. To see all the new talent coming through keeps pushing me", explained Mitch Rawlins.

Rawlins finished third in the event. Nick Ormerod, from the Gold Coast, won the Pro Men's final against Jones Russell. Lachie Cramsie, from the Sunshine Coast, was forth.

In the Women's race, local rider Lilly Pollard finished third overall and it was enough to secure the title. "I'm so happy", said Lilly. "To finally have a contest on home soil was amazing and everyone loved coming here".

Terry McKenna, manager of IBA Australia, praised the event and the fleed of bodyboarders. "This is one of the best spots that I have ever seen for a competition of this magnitude. Bodyboarding has a younger demographic then surfing and as a result we have a large contingent of families that make the trip for the week".
