American actress Maggie Gyllenhaal hit the waves of Hanalei Bay, Kauai, during a stay in Hawaii, in 2011.

Born on the 16th November, 1977, in New York City, Gyllenhaal started appearing as a teenager in her father's, director Stephen Gyllenhaal, movies.

She became famous for her role in "Secretary", in 2002, and was nominated for the Best Actress Golden Globe for that part.

The critically acclaimed actress has since participated in a varied range of movies, such as "Sherrybaby", in 2006, which led to a second Golden Globe nomination, and the blockbuster Batman sequel "The Dark Knight", in 2008.

She was nominated to an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role as the journalist Jean Craddock in "Crazy Love", in 2009.

Maggie Gyllenhaal is the older sister of actor Jake Gyllenhaal.
