Australia's third artificial surf park will be installed at Tompkins Park, just nine kilometers from the heart of Perth.

The surf pool - built by the Wave Park Group - will feature the Wavegarden man-made wave system, and it is scheduled to open by Christmas 2018. The announcement comes after the decision to kick off similar projects in Sydney and Melbourne.

"A thousand surfers a day, a thousand waves an hour, 15 hours a day, seven days a week. The City of Melville will be the surfing mecca of Western Australia," adds Russell Aubrey, Mayor of the City of Melville.

"It's not a done deal yet, there's a lot of assessments and processes we have to go through, but at this stage we're very positive."

The $25 million-surf lagoon expects to pump 17-second waves that will break for 150 meters. Urbnsurf Perth will be located adjacent to the Swan River, in Alfred Cove, and aims to attract 1.2 million residents that live nearby.

"Waves will range from up to 1.7 meters high, pitching waves, designed for the highest levels of performance surfing, down to 0.6 meters high, rolling white-water waves, which are perfect for beginner surfers," underlines the Wave Park Group.

The surf complex will also offer a quality licensed café, a sunset roof-top bar, a surf shop, a beach club, children's playground, a skate park, rock-climbing and a parkour course.

Urbnsurf Perth will accommodate 36 advanced surfers and 48 beginners in the wave pool at the same time, every hour. The new Australian Wavegarden site will create between 45 and 300 jobs.

Surfers will have to pay between $20 and $40 per hour to ride the artificial waves.

Waves are constantly breaking all over the world, and if you're on a surf trip or family vacations it's always good to know you can rent a surfboard anywhere there's a gem to be ridden.
