Ramzi Boukhiam: slide and splash

Ramzi Boukhiam has suffered a tympanic membrane perforation while surfing Teahupoo, in Tahiti.

The 19-year pro surfer from Agadir, Morocco, was riding a medium-sized wave in Teahupoo, when the accident happened.

"It was not a big day, but there were good two-meter perfect wave. I felt good and I was waiting for a bomb. I took a good wave in the West bowl, got barreled but the it was too hollow for me to do a kick out. So, I jumped right before the reef and the lip slapped my ear", explains Boukhiam.

"I felt dizzy and I was helped by local Raimana Van Bastolaer and Hira Teriinatoofa to return to the jet ski. Taivini Mervin took me to the emergency room where the injury was confirmed. I did not hurt but I'm deaf in one ear for now".

Ramzi Boukhiam will have to be out of the water for quite a while and will be unable to catch airplanes, too. Take a look at the most common injuries in surfing.
