Azores Islands: plenty of surf spots and wave types

The Sata Airlines Azores Islands Pro will host some of the world's best surfing talents, as Prime status event, from September 3rd-8th.

Praia de Santa Bárbara will see the top 100 surfers battling it out for a prize-purse of $250,000 and incredibly valuable ranking points towards qualification for the World Championship Tour.

"It's very important for the Azores islands promotion to show to the world their waves, their beauty and to be considered as one of the best spots to surf in Europe", says Rodrigo Heredia, manager of the Sata Airlines Azores Islands Pro.

The prestigious list of past event winners include Willian Cardoso, C.J Hobgood, Messias Felix and Laura Enever, Malia Manuel, Bianca Buitendag in the Women's division.

Surfers from across the globe have praised the Azores' incredible beauty and most return to the location only wishing to explore the multiple waterfalls and hot-water pools even further.

An extended waiting period will allow everyone to enjoy the island's natural resources as well as the organizer to run the event in the best possible conditions.

The Azores Islands offer incredible surf spots with plenty of wave types, from point-breaks and beach breaks to reef breaks.

August 3, 2016, was a day that surfers should never forget. For the first time in its long history, surfing was confirmed in the Olympic Games.
