A large group of surfers invaded the coast of La Jolla Shores, in California, with a single goal in mind.
They were more than one hundred, and they wanted to break the Guinness World Record for the most surfers riding the same wave. It was close, but no cigar.
The event held by 1 Wave Challenge gathered 103 surfers in the sunny sands of San Diego, and they all rode a single wave to shore. But, in the end, it was not enough.
The record had been set October 4, 2009, at Cape Town's Muizenberg Beach, in South Africa, and involved 110 surfers. The California attempt required surfers to raise $250 and pay a $60 event registration fee. All funds were channeled to Boys to Men.
Although the Guinness World Record was not broken, the organization increased the number of participants who surfed last year's wave. There were more six surfers in the line-up, and they got past the 100-person mark.
