The 2008 UK pro surf tour is off in full force and this year Gul International is staging its tour event at Porthmeor Beach in St Ives Cornwall on the 30th and 31st of August.

Joy Monahan (Oahu, HAW), 22, became the 2008 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Women’s World Longboard Champion today after winning the Roxy Jam event at La Cote des Basques in Biarritz.

Carissa Moore (Oahu, HAW), 15, won the Roxy Pro Junior, an Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Grade-2 Pro Junior, after defeating Bianca Buitendag (ZAF), Justine Dupont (FRA) and Joahnne Defay (FRA) at La Cote des Basques in Biarritz.

With the Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay utlizing a couple of fabulous surf days at the beginning of the waiting period, it was a weekend off for the world’s best men, a time to drink in the balmy weather, indulge in a bit of traditional African sightseeing, and ready oneself for the business end of the contest.

Pablo Gutierrez (ESP), 26, won the ASP WQS 1-Star Superbock Pro event in Cordoama, South Portugal, today after defeating underdog Eduardo Fernandes (PRT) in the final.
