In 1990, Tom Curren and Pam defeated Todd Holland to claim the Buondi Pro. Pam Burridge won the women's competition. It was the second time a Championship Tour event took place in Portugal. Hundreds of surf fans flocked to Ribeira d'Ilhas, in Ericeira. Curren and Burridge would end up being crowned the 1990 world surfing champions.
