Calema Midwinters: wind, hats, and Florida sun

Florida is the new capital of North American windsurfing. The East Coast of USA is gearing up for a series of A-level windsurfing events, in Spring 2012.

The 2012 Island Style Classic is coming to Sarasota, between February 25th-26th, just 45 minutes south of Tampa, Florida. The USW National Racing Tour event will display the following A-Fleet divisions: Formula Men (12.5), Formula Women (11), Hybrid Men, Hybrid Women, Open Unlimited, Open Limited Men (7.5), Open Limited Women (7.5) and Kona.

Next up, it's time for another windsurf classic. The 2012 Calema Midwinters Windsurfing Festival will continue its tradition of bringing together World Cup pros, Olympic Class competitors, beginner sailors and all other levels in between.

There will be tough races in Formula, Kona, Techno, RSX, Longboard and Sport Fleets, from 1st-4th March. The event includes the Techno 293 North American Championships and the Kona National Championships.

In the end of April, the Fleming Island Marina will feature the inaugural Jacksonville Windfest Regatta, at SailLaser. The venue is the St. Johns River, which is over two miles wide, at this location.

April is a great month for sailing on the River, with the potential for both frontal passages as well as late afternoon sea breezes. Kona One Design, a windsurfing which has been growing steadily over the last couple of years, is the main attraction.

Whether you think of a kite as a wing or a sail, you want it to be lightweight, resistant, waterproof, but also stiff and flexible at the same time, so that they could respond to all flight requests.
