Amado Vrieswijk and Sarah-Quita Offringa have conquered the 2019 Bonaire PWA World Cup, at Sorobon Beach.
There was no shortage of action in the first event of the professional windsurfing season. And to kick things off, nothing like a freestyle showdown in the southern Caribbean.
On the women's side, Offringa lost the first heat in 11 years to Maaike Huvermann. The Dutch wonder woman forced a super final.
And, despite landing a few double spocks on both tacks, Huvermann was not able to be on top of her game and saw the Aruban put on a clinic performance and win the event.
"What a week! Excitement and surprise levels went through the roof. I'm happy to take the top spot and after having Maaike pushed me. She sailed an amazing heat!" expressed Sarah-Quita Offringa.
On the men's side, Amado Vrieswijk stormed the double elimination and put all his opponents against the ropes in his local backyard.
Youp Schmit and Vrieswijk battled it out in a super final. Schmit wasn't particularly lucky, as he injured himself a few minutes before the heat.
But the clash got underway, and both windsurfers exchanged superior freestyles tricks consecutively. In the end, Amado was crowned King of Bonaire.
"What a feeling to get first place at my home spot. It's been a long and amazing week. The wind was light for the final, but the level was high, and Youp pushed me all the way!" concluded Amado Vrieswijk.
