Ben Veitch has taken out the 2018 Western Australia bodyboarding title, in Mandurah.

The finals day got underway in storm-affected three-to-four-foot left-hand wedges.

In the Open Men's division, the rider from Margaret river confirmed his superiority by taking off on the best and biggest waves of the contest and applying his skills in each scoring opportunity.

"I've been competing in these events for as long as I remember and, although the conditions weren't my bread and butter, I'm stoked with the win and to be the State champ," said Veitch.

"Well done to all the young groms who have been charging and impressed me in the tough conditions."

But Veitch wasn't the only man of the day. Patrick Franklyn, from Palmyra, scooped a double victory in the Under 18 Junior Boys and Under 16 Cadet Boys divisions.

"The waves have been really fun and a big thanks to Surfing WA for moving the event here. I'm looking forward to the National Titles and getting over to NSW with the rest of the WA boys," added Franklyn.

Joel Hughan is the only multiple Bodyboard State champion in 2018. The bodyboarder from Trigg collected the Under 21 Pro Junior and Under 18 Junior Men titles.

Patrick Franklyn also claimed the "Air of the Day" for his massive el rollo on a heavy section. Cael Joyce, 8, was awarded the "Wave of the Day" for his commitment in the challenging conditions and finishing third in the Under 14 Grom Boys division in his debut appearance.

Twenty-one bodyboarders from Western Australia will now represent their state in the upcoming Australian Bodyboard Titles, on the Tweed Coast, in NSW.
