2019 Pipe Trials: riders enjoyed great wave at Makapuu Beach Park | Photo: Gonzo/APB

Eleven trialists have earned a spot on the 2019 Mike Stewart Pipeline Invitational.

The 2019 Pipe Invitational Trials got underway at Makapuu Beach Park, on Oahu's southeastern coast, where riders were greeted by near-perfect ocean conditions.

Initially, the plan was to run the contest at Keaau Beach Park, on the west coast of Oahu, but the surf forecast was not ideal.

As a result, the organization, led by Mike Stewart, was forced to move the competition, and the men's, women's and drop-knee trials ended up getting glassy four-to-five-foot surf and offshore winds.

The winners of the golden tickets for the Pipeline Invitational were Kahekili Labatte, Alistar Taylor, Chris Hodges, and Santiago Kirchner.

Sari Ohhara, Karla Costa and Traci Effinger will join Ayaka Suzuki, as the four will battle it out against their male counterparts in the main event.

Mack Crilley, Sammy Morretino, Kawika Rohr-Kamai, and Dayton Wago will compete for the drop-knee title in a four-man final.

The 2019 Mike Stewart Pipeline Invitational is a one-day event. It will get green light between February 24 and March 8, at Banzai Pipeline, on the North Shore of Oahu.
