Justin Trudeau: negotiating the whitewater surf in British Columbia | Photo: Paul Freimuth/UkeeDaze.com

The Canadian prime minister has gone surfing in Long Beach, British Columbia. The moment was captured by Paul Freimuth.

Despite the low air and water temperatures, Justin Trudeau decided to adventure himself into the waves of Vancouver Island's Pacific Rim National Park Reserve.

The good-looking statesman from Ottawa got the most out of the pumping swell on offer near Tofino, Canada's surfing capital, while his security staff waited patiently on the beach.

Trudeau, a 45-year-old regular-footer, was spotted by a few locals enjoying the surf. And apparently, he managed to stay on the surfboard despite the rough surf.

The Canadian prime minister is not the first head of state to give surfing a go.

Barack Obama (USA), James Cameron (UK), Tony Abbott (Australia), and Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa (Portugal) are regular surfers, bodysurfers, and bodyboarders.
