Mikey Wright: is this a McTwist?

Mikey Wright has landed what is widely considered to be surfing's first-ever McTwist.

The Australian free surfer pulled the trick while riding a shoulder-high left-hander. The maneuver was caught on camera by filmmaker Wade Carroll

The McTwist is a transitional aerial move invented by the American skateboard Mike McGill in Sweden in 1984.

Technically, a McTwist is an inverted backside 540 mute grab. McGill has already confirmed that Wright has, in fact, emulated his trick, but not everyone is convinced.

Some say that the talented regular footer only managed to complete a 360 rotation, and the debate is heated.

Mikey Wright didn't claim the credit for surfing's first McTwist, but the similarities between skate and surf are too evident.
