Surfing in New York: yes, they are riding on motorized surfboards

Two surfers have hit the streets of New York City with their spring wetsuits on and a couple of motorized surfboards.

Surf's up in the asphalt. Who said New York hasn't got waves and surfboards haven't wheels?

No way, Jose. In the crazy traffic jams of the city that never sleeps, a group of intrepid street riders showed up in great style.

Two surfboards equipped with handheld controls got everyone confused. Surfing in an urban environment? Wheels in surfboards? Spring wetsuits between yellow cabs?

Surfing through the streets of New York City is part of a viral campaign to promote the new "Chasing Mavericks" surf movie, which debuted on October 26, 2012.

"Chasing Mavericks" was made with the help of some of the biggest names in the surfing world and features some of the most mind-blowing real wave footage ever captured on film.

The surf gadget itself is already making waves. Is it possible to buy those motorized surfboards?

Where can they be purchased? Who is making this urban surf gizmo? Have we found the means of transport of the future?
