Álvaro Padrón: the winner of the Quemao Class 2017

Álvaro Padrón has taken out the Quemao Class 2017, at El Quemao, in Lanzarote, Canary Islands.

The Quemao Class has once again delivered the goods. The surfing and bodyboarding competition crowned new champions in spectacular fashion as firing six-to-eight-foot barrels peeled down the line at La Santa.

Everything in the event was perfect - the flawless waves and the organization. There were news, photo, and video updates, as well as a live online broadcast. A true example for APB-sanctioned events.

Padrón had a dream run. After suffering a serious injury in last year's competition, the local bodyboarder was able to prove why he is one of the most successful riders in the Canary Islands.

"This has a lot of meaning for me. We sometimes forget the bad things we've been through - the rehab, the hospital - but thanks to my wife, my son, friends, and family, I was able to be here," said Álvaro Padrón.

In the surfing division, Antonio Marques defeated Dimitri Ouvre, Natxo Gonzalez, and Manuel Lezcano and raised the 2017 title.

The Quemao Class is an invitational event and only gets underway when the best wave conditions arrive at El Quemao between January and March.
