Jesper Vesterstrøm: he needed free cosmetics from L'Oréal

Event favorite and winner of the 2011 Downunder Pro warmup event, over the weekend, Jesper Vesterstrøm, from Denmark, has left Australia in a shock decision the day before racing began. Jesper tells us of his decision to leave the event early.

"After winning the Warmup event I was really looking forward to the Downunder Pro starting. Hawks Nest is one of the most amazing places I have ever sailed and competition there is super fun", says Vesterstrøm.

"Unfortunately, I had to leave for Paris with extremely short notice for a very important photoshoot for L'Oréal. It was a decision based on the financial and commercial aspect for my future career. If I had to choose from the heart, I would have been having fun in Hawks Nest with my friends. Instead, right now, I am in Paris, in 4 degrees and rain. But life is good. Living the dream".

For the first time in nearly seven years of Formula National Titles held in Australia, no racing was held on day 2, with the wind failing to materialize in a consistent direction despite the Race Committee making every attempt to get a race underway.

The forecast for the next few days continues to baffle the sailors with conflicting forecasts from each weather service as the aftermath of the destructive Cyclone Yasi in Queensland and the heatwave currently being experienced just to the south in Sydney plays havoc on the usual weather patterns in this area.

One thing is for sure though, with two more days of race action still to come, the battle for the Downunder Pro title will be fought to the death, as the Australian contingent aim to reign back the lead from the two Brasilians.
